KTM 690 Duke

The original Duke was one of the most iconic motorcycles in its class and its sporty character made KTM famous. The Duke’s success story continues even today when the bike keeps the unstoppable character of its ancestor, but is equipped with new technologies and features which make it more versatile and capable than ever.

The 2013 KTM 690 Duke is powered by most cutting-edge series production single-cylinder of our times – a single-cylinder, 4-stroke, spark-ignition liquid-cooled engine that cranks out 67 hp. The engine features plug-selective mapping for the best and most effective combustion, plus extended service intervals of 10,000 km.

As far as ergonomics go, the new 690 Duke comes with a comfortable two piece seat which offers freedom of movement and an ideally angled aluminium handlebar which helps you maneuver the bike with agility. For a sharp stopping power the motorcycle is equipped with a disconnectable dual-circuit ABS system with 9M+ modulator tuned in cooperation with Bosch.

Back then, KTM revived the pure, unadulterated single-cylinder motorcycle in the form of the "original" Duke. Judging by the latest 690 Duke that stands before us today, much has been gained: smoothness, room for a pillion passenger, long-distance ability. But what it has never lost is its intensive and elemental ride dynamics. The most cutting-edge series production single-cylinder of our times and a precision chassis with a wealth of outstanding components turn every trip on the 690 Duke into an incomparable and unforgettable riding experience.

Lightweight components in a large, lightweight entirety: The 9 kg lightweight tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel and the 4 kg lightweight, high-quality, pin-jointed, die-cast swingarm impress with extreme levels of torsional stiffness, providing the less than 150 kg 690 Duke with excellent tracking stability.

The WP upside-down fork on the Duke with a 43 mm upright tube diameter and the pivot-arm articulated WP pressurised-gas monoshock excel with perfect tuning and an unbelievably broad spectrum of use for all demands, from relaxed cruising to racing around closed circuits.

KTM has nevertheless allowed the best technicians to play around with very clever computation software until an extremely lightweight, aesthetically elegant but still very stable and durable set of rims emerged from the casting die. Slightly lighter, but far less rotationally inert because the weight was saved predominantly at the rim ring. The result? Faster acceleration, shorter braking distance, quicker changes of direction – simply a faster motorbike.

The Duke’s extremely powerful and easily applied Brembo® brakes impress with outstanding controllability. At the front wheel, a radially-mounted, four-piston, fixed brake calliper bites onto a floating, 320 mm brake disc.

The disconnectable dual-circuit ABS system with 9M+ modulator tuned in cooperation with Bosch offers total protection against over-braking, while maintaining the full effect and perfect feedback of a genuine sports brake thanks to very fine sensors. Weighing no more than one kilogramme, the ABS system therefore allows extremely sporty braking. And prevents nose-overs actively and effectively.

The new 690 Duke inherits many of the benefits of its predecessor: for example, the low weight of less than 150 kg, the first-class handling and the outstanding brakes. Particularly pleasant is the place of work on the two-piece seat: Comfortable while still being set up for all dynamic riding situations, because the gathered sitting position and freedom of movement behind the ideally angled, wide aluminium handlebar provide perfect support for controlling the bike.

Thanks to the mechanical and electrical refinements, the new 690 Duke uses even less fuel than ever. Even though the last Duke had already won international consumption comparison test rides with ease. Duke riding will therefore be even more economical and environmentally friendly, while remaining unashamedly fleet-footed, sporty and dynamic.

The new Duke is equipped with the latest version of the legendary LC4: A whole 690 cm³ of displacement, twin ignition featuring plug-selective mapping for the best and most effective combustion, plus extended service intervals of 10,000 km and even lower fuel consumption – never has it been as elegant, cultivated, sporty and effective to be powered by one cylinder.

And never has the need for more cylinders been more questionable. 50 kW (68 PS) provide, thanks also to drive-by-wire, extremely powerful and free-revving thrust at all engine speeds, hence making light work of the equally lightweight 690 Duke. It has adopted such well-known standard production goodies such as active engine casing ventilation and the anti-hopping clutch that effectively prevents rear wheel chatter when down-shifting hard.

Suspension:

  • A distinctive aluminum gull-wing swingarm controlled by a lay-down single shock complements the distinctive frame design, with an integrated line flowing from steering head to rear hub
  • The short, compact frame and engine design allow the swingarm to be longer, which improves overall handling
  • The Showa shock has adjustable preload and rebound damping, and uses a free piston and two-stage damping valves for smooth action during initial compression that becomes firmer near the end of the stroke for a more planted feel

Bodywork:

  • The fairing, stacked dual headlight, front fender and mirrors, and a Z1000-style LED tail light give the Versys a bold high-tech look
  • The windscreen provides a large still-air pocket for comfort; three-position adjustability makes it adaptable to fit a variety of riders and climates

Kawasaki ER-6n

The new 2013 Kawasaki ER-6n is sporty, practical, agile and cool. What more could you ask from a bike? The motorcycle features a new double pioe perimeter style frame, a sharp design language and a powerful engine. Talking about the engine it is a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 8 valves, parallel twin unit with a displacement of 649 cm³. The engine is brought to life by an electric starter and is mated on a six speed transmission. In terms of power, it cranks out 72.1 PS @ 8,500 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm.

Kawasaki’s engineers have spent a lot of time to reward the ER-6n’s rider with first class ergonomics. Thereby the motorcycle is equipped with a sporty looking tandem seat with thick cushioning, ergonomic passenger grips, rubber-mounted seat bracket and a comfortable handlebar. Ride to a different rhythm and stay in tune with your passion to arrive on time and in style. Welcome the new ER-6n into your world and transform cross-city travelling from negative need to positive want.

Like on its predecessor, the all-new double-pipe perimeter-style frame is a key component of the ER-6n’s identity. As before, the new bodywork accentuates the frame, rather than hiding it. The double-pipe design of the new frame, made from high-tensile steel, contributes to the bike’s lightweight appearance.

More compact headlamp shroud is shorter front to back, and designed to make it look slimmer vertically as well – an image reinforced by the smoked instrument visor. Angular design of the stacked dual headlamp helps maintain the identity of the ER-6n while contributing to the sharp new street-fighter style looks.

The fuel tank is 20 mm taller, helping to visually concentrate the ER-6n’s mass at the front of the bike. The rear of the tank slopes back in a straight line to the seat.

The ER-6n’s Parallel Twin engine configuration was chosen as the best balance of good power characteristics and compact size.

Engine tuning delivered both a rider-friendly character ideal for new riders and performance to put a smile on the faces of more experienced motorcyclists. The engine’s compact size was one of the keys to realising the ER-6n’s slim package. The 2012 engine offers more low-mid range torque for more fun and greater usability in everyday riding situations, while maintaining the smooth, high-revving character of its predecessor.

The rigidity balance of the double-pipe frame and swingarm contributes to a lighter, easier handling package. Rigid-mount engine is a stressed member, contributing to the frame’s idealised rigidity balance.

The swingarm’s new double-pipe design makes use of a D-section tube (upper right tube) for optimal rigidity. Revised suspension has longer stroke front and rear, offering both sporty handling and enhanced comfort. Rear shock length and stroke are 2 mm longer; front fork is 15 mm longer with 5 mm longer stroke to match the rear. The longer strokes enable lower spring rates. Damping has been revised accordingly.

Under-engine muffler with larger volume and revised internal construction delivers increased torque in the everyday range below 7,000 rpm. The increased performance facilitates control at lower rpm and contributes to the enhanced enjoyment of the new ER-6n.

Following the lines of the frame and rear shock, the swingarm also features the new double-pipe design, complementing the design of the frame and contributing to the ER-6n’s high-quality appearance. The swingarm’s gull-arm style design on the right side enables the more aggressive angle of the muffler.

Intake ducts extend through the frame tubes to ensure a source of cool fresh air for the engine. This also contributes to the induction note, adding to rider excitement. Revised shrouds are narrower when viewed from the front. Front turn signals, previously built-in to the shrouds, are mounted on the headlamp shroud. quality appearance.

Honda VFR1200FA

The Honda VFR1200FA is one of the most technologically advanced motorcycles built by the Japanese manufacturer. It is powered by a compact 1,237 cc V4 Unicam engine that combines Throttle By Wire and Traction Control systems to deliver mind blowing performances and maximum safety. The engine is fed by a 19 litres fuel tank and its power is kept in leash by a six speed transmission.

The motorcycle’s speed is kept under control by a sophisticated braking system especially tuned for the needs of a sport bike. It includes powerful new six-piston calipers for the front and a dual-piston caliper at the rear that bite on large full-floating discs (320 mm front; 276 mm rear). Moreover, you also get a lightweight Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) that helps you maximize the safety of braking on difficult surfaces.

Revolutionary. Radical. Choose your superlative, and chances are it applies to the incredible VFR1200FA. This is a bike that showcases the best of Honda’s forward thinking and advanced engineering. Its super-compact 1,237 cc V4 Unicam engine brings together sophisticated Throttle By Wire and Traction Control systems for superior response, performance and safety.

And the chassis is just as advanced, with a lightweight shaft-drive system that routes the shaft below the swingarm pivot point to eliminate the squat and lift of conventional shaft drives without resorting to the complex and heavy countermeasures used by some competing models, and the peace of mind of Honda’s proven Combined Braking System with ABS. Whether your destination is across town or across time zones, the journey is always a thrill on a Honda VFR1200FA.

  • The VFR1200FA’s Traction Control system carefully monitors a range of different parameters, looking for unusual fluctuations that could suggest an imminent loss of traction at the rear tire. If the system believes wheelspin is imminent, engine power is momentarily reduced, thereby maintaining traction.
  • Light and compact 1,237 cc liquid-cooled 76-degree V-4 engine pumps out amazing levels of power with a distinctive feel and sound. By combining many of Honda’s most advanced technologies, engineers managed to create a remarkably compact engine.
  • Unique cylinder layout locates the rear cylinders side by side but close together, and the front cylinders more widely spaced. This layout allows for a slim, compact “waist” that fits comfortably between the rider’s legs. It also improves mass centralization, thereby contributing to the bike’s balanced feel and ease of control.
  • The engine also incorporates a special high-strength Symmetrically Coupled Phase-shift Crankshaft that features a 28-degree crankpin offset that works in concert with the 76-degree V angle to essentially negate primary engine vibration for smooth running. And because the powerplant therefore has perfect primary balance, the need for a balance shaft is eliminated, which allows for a more compact engine and also yields a weight savings of nearly 1.4 kg (3 lb).
  • Lightweight and compact Unicam™ valve train allows for significantly shorter and smaller cylinder heads with no loss in efficiency. It’s the same technology used in Honda’s potent CRF motocross bikes.
  • Also borrowed from the CRF range and the RC211V MotoGP bike is the sealed crankcase system that reduces the pumping loss created through piston movement, marking the first time this system has been used on a street motorcycle.
  • The engine’s performance is delivered where it’s most useful and most enjoyable. Its linear torque curve is focused in the low-end and midrange, making it possible for the rider to simply roll on and off the throttle while powering through bends. This effortless control makes the VFR1200FA great fun to ride – this is a sportbike with real-world-usable power.
  • Asymmetrical exhaust lengths between front and rear cylinders further improve power output and add to the VFR1200FA’s unique sound and feel.
  • Engineered to provide excellent cornering clearance and minimal intrusion to the feet of the rider and passenger, the high-volume, twin-outlet muffler produces an unobtrusive but fantastically stirring note. At low revs the sound is almost like a human heartbeat. Further up the rev range, once the internal servo-operated exhaust valve is opened, the sound changes to a truly inspiring, hard-edged V-4 howl.
  • A slipper clutch allows quick downshifting and improved control under deceleration. It’s similar to the clutch on the CBR1000RRA.
  • A throttle-by-wire system replaces the throttle cable with sophisticated electronics. It provides light, precise fuel metering at all engine rpm, the system’s accuracy gives the rider increased levels of control.
  • The next-generation shaft-drive system routes the shaft below the swingarm pivot point to eliminate the squat and lift of conventional shaft drives without resorting to complex and heavy countermeasures as found on some competing models. Special dampers eliminate any excessive slack or jerkiness in the system, resulting in smooth on- and off-throttle transitions.
  • The patented layered fairing design creates a uniquely beautiful shape and, at the same time, optimal airflow and heat management. The fairing incorporates two layers. Air entering between the layers and through two oval-shaped spaces in the front of the fairing is channelled in exactly the directions needed to enhance the bike’s stability at higher speeds. Plus, by channelling air through smaller apertures before it reaches the radiators and thereby increasing its velocity, engine cooling is optimized and the hot, exhausted air is carried quickly away from the rider and passenger for a cooler, more comfortable ride. The heat generated by the engine is also channelled away to keep hot air away from the rider.
  • Honda Pro-Arm single-side swingarm with single gas-charged shock features a handy remote spring-preload adjuster, rebound damping adjustability, and 130 mm (5.1 inches) of travel. At the front the VFR1200FA boasts a stout, sport-oriented 43 mm inverted cartridge fork with spring preload adjustability and 108 mm (4.3 inches) of travel.

Aprilia RS 50

This small sport bike was especially developed for those who are starting to learn the secrets of motorcycles. Unlike other bikes of its type the Aprilia RS 50 offers premium features in a relatively compact package. Needless to say that it was also built with comfort in mind so once on board, you are met by an ergonomically designed seat, a nonintrusive fuel tank and a sporty handlebar combined with a modern instrument display.

The motorcycle is propelled by a liquid cooled, single cylinder two stroke engine with a displacement of 49.9 cc. The engine sends its power to the rear wheel through a six speed transmission.

As far as brakes are concerned the Aprilia RS 50 is equipped with a 300 mm front disc grabbed by a radial caliper while out back there is a 180 mm stainless steel disc paired with a powerful two piston caliper.

You might think that you can only find lightweight wheels, radial calipers, an aluminium frame and swingarm, and an under-seat exhaust on a big bike. But you would be wrong. Because these are the specifications of the Aprilia RS 50, the undisputed top dog in the world of 50 cc supersport motorcycles. The Aprilia RS 50 is a genuine sports motorcycle, and comes packed with the sort of technology normally found only on a GP racer.

Its eye-catching, racing lines and determined, aggressive shape tell you that the Aprilia RS 50 knows no compromises. This 50 cc supersport is made to thrill and has all the performance needed to do so. In terms of style, the RS 50 is clearly and unashamedly inspired by the flagship of the Aprilia family, the RSV 1000 R, the twin that beat Japanese four cylinder racers to win the 2006 Master Bike trophy. This same thirst for victory is found in the RS 50, together with technology developed for the world-beating Aprilia 125 GP. No wonder the RS 50 is the machine that all other 50 cc bikes have to beat.

The specifications for the RS 50 are simply breath-taking. The following are just the most important:

  • aluminium frame
  • aluminium swingarm
  • lightweight wheels with ‘Y’ spokes
  • radial caliper front brake
  • Euro 2, two-stroke engine
  • fairing based on that of the RSV 1000 R
  • analog/digital instruments

The aggressive lines of the new RS 50 are enhanced by a new, wind tunnel tested fairing, with a sporty modern design. This fairing is very similar to that of the RS 125 which won the 2006 Design Award. Twin headlights give superior visibility and contribute to the aggressive racing styling of this incredible 50. A streamlined, slender tail completes the Aprilia RS 50’s racing image and also hides the expansion chamber of the under-seat exhaust, another feature taken from the world of racing, that dramatically improves balance and weight distribution. A 13 litre fuel tank and miserly fuel consumption mean that the Aprilia RS 50 has an amazing autonomy. Even the new tank shape conveys the bike’s racing spirit: the tank appears to sit on the twin beam frame just like the tanks of genuine GP racers.

Aprilia was the first manufacturer to make a 50 cc motorcycle with an aluminium frame. The new RS 50 takes things one step further, with a light alloy, reinforced, extruded tube frame for better than ever performance. This revolutionary frame not only reduces overall weight but offers a new level of structural rigidity. Even the swingarm is made from a prestige light alloy and is damped by a hydraulic monoshock with adjustable spring preload, giving a wheel travel of 110 mm.

The upside down fork is another important feature of the RS 50. This extremely advanced fork is totally safe and reliable while offering amazing performance in terms of sliding action and damping. The 40 mm stanchions are the same size as on many big bikes, and wheel travel is a generous 120 mm, making the bike’s powerful braking system even more effective .

A performance chassis demands an engine to match. The RS 50 is therefore equipped with an advanced engine of the latest generation, in the form of a single cylinder, liquid cooled, two stroke powerplant with read valve induction and an anti-vibration balancer shaft. The very latest design and technology enables this new engine to deliver exceptional performance (6.25 kW at 10,000 rpm) for its size and weight (only 15 kg). Lubrication is provided by a separate mixing system, incorporating a variable displacement volumetric pump. Starting is electric. The gearbox is a six speed unit, to make the most of the engine’s exceptional power.

On top of all this, the lucky RS 50 owner benefits from a whole range of prestige components normally only found on far bigger machines. Take, for example, the aluminium brake and clutch levers, aluminium footrest brackets, high level silencer and tubeless radial tyres. Aprilia has even fitted the RS 50 with an advanced multi-functional instrument panel. This compact analog-digital unit acts as a real on-board computer. In addition to all the usual parameters and functions, it also incorporates a built-in lap timer to enable the champions of tomorrow to record their best track times.

Benelli Tornado Naked TRE 899

The Benelli TNT 1130 Century Racers is an aggressive naked designed with sportivity in mind. As far as design is concerned, the Benelli TNT 1130 Century Racers features a sharp style dominated by straight lines and muscular shapes that give the entire motorcycle a pretty cool look.

At the heart of the motorcycle lies an in liquid cooled, four stroke, transverse three cylinder, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder engine with a capacity of 1130cc. The engine cranks out a maximum power of 131.3 hp @ 9250 rpm and Max Torque 117 Nm @ 6750 rpm. All this power is kept in leash by a six speeds transmission.

To help you use the entire power generated by the engine Benelli equipped the motorcycle with a set of sporty suspensions that include a fully adjustable front fork paired with a rear ZF Sachs shock absorber.

It carries the name Century Racer and it’s already a classic. Undeniably elegant, the motorcycle comes in the 100th anniversary colour recalling Benelli’s competition models, bikes that have made racing history with riders the likes of Renzo Pasolini. Even the logo that sits on the tank is the glorious design of the Sixties, emphasizing the unique history and immortal fascination of a motorcycle manufacturer that has given two-wheel enthusiasts a century of excitement and awe-inspiring machines.

The TNT 1130 Century Racer pays tribute to Benelli’s anniversary celebrated in 2011, but on the road it is simply and indisputably a super sport bike that makes no compromises. The maximum power of 129 HP (95 kW) at 8500 rpm and 110 Nm (11.2 kgm) torque at 5250 rpm are specs that signify great performance and riding ecstasy.

The attention paid torefining the chassis and inline three-cylinder engine have further accented the character of this model, which carries an additional distinctive element, the fully adjustable fork: spring preload, hydraulic compression and rebound damping are all parameters the rider can adjust to his liking, just as he can with the ZF Sachs rear shock absorber, which makes a fundamental contribution to transmitting the horsepower of this three-cylinder right to the ground.

For the TNT 1130 Century Racer, Benelli makes available a set of special, non-standard accessories that are truly unique, including: carbon muffler, front and rear mudguards in carbon, carbon belly pans, carbon chain casing, adjustable brake/clutch levers in ergal, handlebar ends in ergal, dry clutch kit, frame sliders, racing tank filler cap, carbon single- seat tail, motorcycle covers and semi-rigid panniers
